Using their talents to present thier ideas and messages through lyric, rhyme, and beat, comes RITheMs "The RITheM is Gonna Getcha". Fully expecting to be disappointed by yet another "angry at the world" hiphop artist, I dug into this list of tracks with less than usual enthusiasm. I am extremely happy to report that my faith in both rap and hiphop have been restored by these fine artists.
Fully capable of taking the gangsta highway, (and being left on the byway), RITheM instead leaves out the way overused racial slurs and threats of violence that impede the success of most hiphop artists of today. Only occassionally referring that you better not stand in their way.
RITheM takes the higher road in their expression, using some great hooks, vocals, timing, and rhyming skills. Not lost in this effort is RITheMs ability to stay true and present many tracks that are enjoyable to dance to, without the overpowering bass and synth combo that has become SO old now.
RIThem does take creative risk, and I for one can see it paying off.
"The RITheM is Gonna Getcha" is an enjoyable listen. My personal favorite tracks in this effort are: "In my system", "Up in the lab", and "Away". Check them out.
And, lastly, it was great to find out, that RITheM creates this sound local to me, as 2 members are based in KC. This means that maybe sometime soon, I may be able to get out and hear them live. I'll be watching for more from them. Both on the local scene and from their recorded efforts.
Thanks for the heads up Uncle BoBo!
