Q: What does it take to be discovered?
KK: Contrary to popular belief, artists aren't "discovered" --they earn their right to get signed. By being really good, having a great live show, building a large fan base and promotion and marketing your brand, people will take note.
There is no short cut to fame and fortune! And it doesn't matter what part of the country you live in because the A+R tentacles are long and wide and they will find you if you're standing out from the pack. And worst case scenario...if you don't get a deal---you're still out there making money making music and doing what you love. How many people can say that about their careers?
Kenny Kerner is a former record producer with 18 gold and platinum record awards, and is currently Vice President and Director of the Music Business Program at Musicians Institute in Hollywood.
