"I headed over to Avalon early in the night to check out their showcase of unsigned artists.
To label this Philadelphia group hip hop just because they rap and have an MC would be a crime - forget scalping Hannah Montana tickets - because this band is not about the beat. They bring on funky grooves that rock, roll and are pretty much completely out of control.
Grindcity was having a great time hopping all over the stage, guitarist Gab Guma rocked it Jimmy Hendrix style with with guitar god moves and looks, but they also took time out to acknowledge the other bands, who were watching from the balcony, and asked the crowd to "support them".
The band has big moves and even bigger sounds but the best thing they did was a slow stripped down R&B flavored song called "Haters". It was an aching and almost heart-breaking song about the struggle to make music when you barely have a dime.
After the Grindcity finished up, it was obvious we were heading into another world. Toto we ARE in Kansas!"
